On Thursday, Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives arrested 37-year-old Edward Zucker.  Zucker currently works as a deputy at the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Fresno.

He faces one felony count of selling counterfeit merchandise.

Sheriff’s detectives and Homeland Security Investigations Agents (HSI) conducted a three month long investigation into the purchasing and selling of counterfeit professional sports jerseys.  In all, 38 jerseys were seized along with other evidence corroborating the crime.  The investigation revealed Zucker was selling merchandise strictly as an individual.  He was not using his authority as an officer of the law to conduct business.

Detectives contacted and detained Zucker at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Fresno, which is where he works.  A search warrant was executed at his place at of employment and his home.  Counterfeit sports jerseys were discovered at both locations.

Zucker was cited and released, which is standard operating procedure for this type of investigation.  Both Zucker and the U.S. Marshal’s Office were fully cooperative in this investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office will not comment on Zucker’s employment status as that is a personnel issue.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that it is illegal to sell counterfeit merchandise.  We encourage consumers to always research those they plan to do business with.
