General Information

Incarcerated persons have access to phones.  They may contact people outside the jail by making collect calls.  If you wish to try and contact an incarcerated person, please mail them a letter, via U.S. Mail, to the address below.  This is also the process for media members wishing to contact an incarcerated person.  For more detailed rules on acceptable materials, visit https://www.fresnosheriff.org/jail/inmate-mail.html

If you do not have the Booking / JID numbers of the incarcerated person to whom you are writing, you may look them up on the Sheriff’s website using the feature titled "Incarcerated Person Locator."

This online resource allows you to search for incarcerated persons in the Sheriff's custody. Virtually all public information about the incarcerated person is available in this area of the site. The incarcerated person's housing location, Booking Number, Jail Identification Number (also referred to as JID or Person ID), charges, bail amount, and projected release date (if known) are available by visiting the Incarcerated Person Locator page. It also serves as an entry point to register for notification of any changes to an incarcerated person’s custody status.

By selecting from the topics listed in the dropdown field, you can learn a great deal about the jail system and the programs and services available to incarcerated persons. In most cases, your questions about mail, visiting, phone calls and more can be answered by visiting these pages.

For questions not answered on this Website, please feel free to call our Jail Information Office at (559) 475-9491. This number has been established to assist in answering general questions. Please refrain from calling any of the other listed numbers regarding general incarcerated person information. The telephone numbers for the Chaplains, Watch Commander, ADA Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Tour Sergeant and Medical staff have been provided to assist with specific issues for the reasons specified. While these numbers have been provided to facilitate public interaction, the staff in these areas are unable to provide general incarcerated person information and you will be redirected to the toll-free number.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is a participant in the VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) program. VINE is an anonymous service provided at no cost to the public for the purpose of providing notification when certain changes occur to an incarcerated person’s custody status.

Users are able to register an email address and/or telephone numbers in order to be notified when an incarcerated person is released, is pending release (for sentenced incarcerated person with scheduled release dates), or when transferred to a facility in another county or state prison.

To take advantage of this system:

1. Search for the inmate through the Sheriff's Incarcerated Person Locator page.
2. Once you locate the correct incarcerated person, click his/her name to view the incarcerated person's information page.
3. About halfway down the page, you will see a link to register for incarcerated person status notifications. Click on that link.
4. A new browser window will open giving you access to the VINE website. Simply follow the directions to register your email and/or phone numbers.
5. PLEASE NOTE: When registering with VINE, please make certain you enter your email address and/or phone number correctly. The Fresno Sheriff’s Office will not know if you have entered incorrect information, and an entry error will prevent you from receiving important notifications.

You may also register by calling VINE toll-free or by going directly to the VINE website. You will need to provide the inmate's name or JID/Person ID number.
