Giovanni Herrera

26 year old Giovanni Herrera of Fresno has been booked into the Fresno County Jail.

He faces felony charges related to gun and ammunition possession as well as misdemeanors for DUI and resisting arrest.  Herrera also had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Kern County for drug related charges.  He is being held on $100,000 bail.

Around midnight on Saturday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy was patrolling the area of Mountain View and Orange Avenues when he saw a GMC Yukon swerving on the road.  The deputy made a traffic stop on the SUV, which was being driven by Giovanni Herrera.  The deputy noticed Herrera appeared to have been drinking.  The deputy had Herrera step out of the vehicle so he could detain him until a CHP officer arrived to conduct a field sobriety test.  Herrera became resistant and tried to push the deputy away.  The deputy eventually gained control and was able to place him in handcuffs.  A test later revealed Herrera was over the legal limit for alcohol in his system, so he was arrested.  Prior to towing the vehicle, deputies searched the inside of it and found an SKS semi-automatic rifle and two magazines.  One was a 10 round magazine that was filled more than halfway with bullets and the other was a 30 round magazine that was almost completely full of ammunition.  Herrera was not permitted to carry either the gun or the large capacity magazine.

If you have additional information about Giovanni Herrera, please report it to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867.  You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
