The Fresno County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team rescued three Tulare County men earlier today that became lost near Sequoia Lake. They are 38-year-old Steve Ellis of Exeter, 45-year-old Glenn Garlin of Visalia and 49-year-old Richard Lamb of Exeter.
The three men left the Millwood OHV Park yesterday at 7:00 am for a ride on their dirt bikes. They were scheduled to be back at 4:00 pm, but never returned. Family members contacted the Sheriff’s Office around 9:00 pm and a search was launched.
After their rescue, it was learned that during the trip one of the bikes broke down. All three started hiking out of the area but became lost. They setup camp at dark and made a fire near the upper Kings River. At sunrise Monday, they started hiking again.
Shortly before noon, members of the California Highway Patrol’s helicopter H40 spotted the men. H40 landed a short distance away, picked up the three, and flew them out of the forest to Sequoia Lake. They were later reunited with their families at the Sheriff’s Command Post near Millwood & Hwy 180. All of the men were all in good health.
A total of 11 SAR team members responded, which included Jeepers and OHV. The Sheriff’s helicopter Eagle One and CHP’s H40 also assisted. The search area was at an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet.
