Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Chanly Un, 37, of Fresno.

Un has an extensive criminal history.  He was most recently convicted of burglary and was later placed on probation as part of AB109.  Entering today, he had a no bail arrest warrant for violating his probation.

Around 2:00 pm on Saturday, construction workers visited a home on the 2100 block of S. Rolinda Ave. to perform some work.  While inside, they discovered a man (Chanly Un) hiding inside a closet.  The workers got into an argument with the man and were able to get him to leave.  The workers later saw the man walk to a neighbor’s house, break a window and force his way inside.  The workers reported the break-in to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.  Dispatchers contacted the homeowner, who was not home at this time.

Deputies responded to the home with the assistance of a Fresno Police K-9 unit and met with the homeowner as he arrived back at his house.  The homeowner attempted to open a door with his key, but was met with resistance.  Suspect Un re-locked the door as the homeowner tried to enter.  Un shouted out that he was armed and if anyone came inside he would shoot them.  The homeowner told deputies he owned guns and some inside were not locked up.

The threat of violence lead to members of the FSO SWAT team and Clovis Police SWAT being called to the home where they setup a perimeter.  Deputies who serve on the Crisis Negotiation Team also arrived and established phone lines to try and communicate with Un, whose identity was not known prior to his arrest.

Around 5:30 pm, SWAT deployed tear gas into the home in an attempt to get Un to surrender, which he refused to do.  Un, who had barricaded doors, told deputies over the phone not to come in or he would shoot and kill them.

The FSO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (bomb squad) brought in its camera-equipped robot and sent it inside the house.  The robot was able to give deputies a visual of the room where Un was hiding.  Shortly after 7:00 pm, deputies deployed tear gas into that room, which caused Un to leave the room.  Members of the SWAT teams immediately confronted Un.  He was resistant at first, but deputies eventually gained control of Un and placed him under arrest.

Deputies later searched the room where Un was hiding and found some of the homeowner’s loaded guns, which were within Un’s reach.

No deputies or officers were injured during this operation.

If you have any additional information on the suspect, Chanly Un, you are asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at (559) 600-3111 or Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867.  You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
