The suspect injured during an officer involved shooting is identified as 53 year old Jose Garcia of Parlier.

He remains hospitalized, listed in critical condition.  He has been electronically booked into the Fresno County Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, assault on an officer, evading police and resisting arrest.

Around 10:10 am, on Saturday, August 15th, a Parlier Police officer requested back up after his patrol car was struck by bullets in the area of Merced and H Streets.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the area a few minutes later and began looking for the vehicle believed to be involved. A deputy and a Selma Police officer spotted the suspect in a pickup truck and a pursuit ensued. It ultimately ended just before 10:30 am on Fig Avenue, near Third and Fourth Streets, when the suspect crashed into the fence of Parlier High School.  A deputy and a Selma Police officer fired shots at the suspect, striking him multiple times.  He received medical aid and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.  A firearm in Jose Garcia’s possession was recovered near his vehicle.

A total of four law enforcement officers were involved in this shooting.  Two are from Parlier Police, one is from Selma Police, and one is a Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy.  No officers were shot.  One Selma officer injured his arm.
