Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the gunman who killed Jesus Castor, 52, of Calwa. The shooting also injured Castor’s 77 year old mother. She is currently in Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The shooting happened just before 2:00 am on Monday Castor, his mother and his 18 year old niece took a walk along the 2400 block of S. 10th Street in Calwa. During this time they came across a group of four to five men on the street. One of the men pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at Castor and his mother who were in close range. The 18 year old woman ran away to a nearby home and told residents to call 911. She was not struck by any bullets. Castor died at the scene and his mother was rushed to the hospital.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Detectives are interviewing potential witnesses to try and get an accurate description of the suspect(s). Detectives have not yet determined a possible motive behind this shooting.

This is the first homicide in Fresno County for 2016.
