Around 2:20 pm on Saturday, April 15th, dispatchers with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disturbance with gunshots at the intersection of Valentine and Princeton Avenues in Fresno.

Deputies arrived and found 16 year old Nolyn Chann down on the ground with a gunshot wounds. Deputies administered CPR and worked with EMS to get him to the hospital where he would later die. Chann lived in Clovis and was a student at Sunnyside High School in Fresno.

Through a preliminary investigation, homicide detectives and members of our Crime Scene Unit have developed information to show this shooting involved Asian gang members. This was an isolated incident, not a random shooting.

A short distance away on Valentine Ave. sits the Fresno Cambodian Buddhist Temple. Here a large public celebration was taking place with hundreds of guests. The people involved in the shooting were in this area of town to attend the event at the temple. Detectives conducted numerous interviews with guests to try and identify anyone connected to the shooting.
