On Monday, January 5th, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims held her official swearing-in ceremony.

The Honorable James Quaschnick, a retired Fresno County Judge, administered the Sheriff’s Oath of Office.  The bible being used during the ceremony belonged to Sheriff Mims’ grandmother, Pearl Graves White Hallam.  January 8th would have been her grandmother’s 109th birthday.  Sheriff Mims also carried the badge of her late father, Adrian White, in her pocket to honor his memory.  White was a Deputy Constable who was later elected Constable of the Caruthers Judicial District. When the constable system was consolidated in 1973, he became a sergeant with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Mims is the 25th person to hold the Office of the Sheriff since it was established in 1856.  Mims was first elected as sheriff in 2006 and remains the first and only woman to hold this position.  Sheriff Mims is now in charge of the Fresno County Coroner's Office as well.
