A homicide victim found in the county portion of Fowler has been identified as 18 year old Jose Vasquez of Selma.

Around 7:15 am on Tuesday, a bus driver with Fowler Unified School District was driving his route on E. Springfield Avenue, just west of Fowler Avenue, when he noticed a body on the side of the road.  He made a report to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and deputies were dispatched to the intersection of E. Springfield and S. Claremont Avenue.  Deputies located a man with an apparent gunshot wound who was dead.  Homicide detectives responded to the scene along with members of the Crime Scene Unit to begin an investigation and collect evidence.

Detectives are working to identify possible suspects and / or a vehicle.  The motive behind Vasquez’ death is unknown at this point.
