At 9:34 pm on Tuesday, Reedley Police received a report of a man with a gun walking near 11th St. and North Ave. Moments later, a similar report was called in near 13th and F Streets.

As officers responded, a call came in of a woman suffering from a gunshot wound on the 100 block of S. East Ave. As officers and EMS tended to her, a report was made of a man with a gunshot wound on the 800 block of E. Evening Glow Ave. Sheriff's deputies who were responding to the area performed CPR on the man, but he died at the scene. He is identified as is 52 year old Alfredo Salcedo Cuevas of Reedley.

Reedley Police then saw a man matching the suspect's description near S. Haney and E. Springfield Avenues. As officers drove toward him, he ran across Springfield and into the property of the Riverland Apartment Complex. Officers pulled into the parking lot. As they got out to pursue the suspect, the suspect fired shots at officers. Around 9:55 pm, three Reedley Police officers returned multiple shots, striking the suspect. He was later pronounced dead in a courtyard / breezeway area of the complex. A handgun was found lying next to the suspect. No officers were injured, nor were any residents of the apartments.

As this officer involved shooting was taking place, dispatchers received a call of a man with a gunshot wound on the 700 block of E. Ponderosa Ave. Both he (57) and the woman (54) who were shot are now at Community Regional Medical Center and are listed in critical condition.

The suspect's identity is not available for release at this time. What can be said is he is a 20 year old man who was known to law enforcement and has a lengthy criminal history. In fact, he was just released from prison on Monday. We are not releasing the crimes he was convicted of due to them occurring when he was a juvenile.

It is not confirmed if this suspect is responsible for shooting all three victims, but there is a high probability that he is due to the time frame and close proximity of all of the shootings.
The three male officers who fired have law enforcement experience of 20 years, 5 years and 1 year. They are now on paid administrative leave.

This marks the city of Reedley's first homicide of 2023. Reedley Police is handling the investigations of the three victims who were shot. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the officer involved shooting portion. This is the 4th officer involved shooting investigation the sheriff’s office has conducted since May 3rd. One was for Selma Police, two for sheriff's deputies and now one for Reedley Police.
