On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, as part of their regular public meeting, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors will hold a public Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds (TRUTH) Act Forum.

At this public forum, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office will provide a statistical report regarding the access provided to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2022 of incarcerated individuals in the Fresno County Jail. After the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office provides the statistical report, the Board of Supervisors will receive public comment.

In accordance with the TRUTH Act, AB 2792 (Bonta, Chapter 768, Statutes of 2016) signed by Governor Brown on September 28, 2016, as of January 1, 2018, the local governing body in which a local law enforcement agency has provided ICE access to an individual during the last year is to hold at least one community forum the following year.

As part of the forum, the local law enforcement agency may provide the governing body with data it maintains regarding the number and demographic characteristics of individuals the agency has provided ICE access, the date ICE access was provided, and whether the ICE access was provided through a hold, transfer, notification request, or through another means.
