Members of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit have identified 34 year old Rudy Veloz of Orange Cove as the victim of a recent homicide.

At 1:10 pm on Sunday, March 16th, dispatchers received calls of shots being fired outdoors on the property of the Orchard Village Apartment Complex located at 1555 South Avenue in Orange Cove.

Orange Cove Police arrived five minutes later, and officers were directed inside an apartment unit.  There they found Rudy Veloz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Officers began to provide medical aid to him, who was conscious at the time.  An ambulance transported Veloz to Reedley Hospital where he later died.

Police worked to identify the shooting suspect and developed information about a 16 year old boy and where he might be.

The Sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, directed patrol deputies to him a short distance from the apartments and they took him into custody.

The suspect and victim knew each other.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is now investigating the case, and detectives are working to establish a motive for the shooting.
