The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Fresno man in connection with a shooting incident last night that left two persons injured. Arrested was 20 year old Johnny Nunez-Lopez of Fresno.
The incident occurred last night, shortly before 11:00pm, when the Sheriff’s Office started receiving several calls regarding people being shot by a man randomly firing a handgun in the 2000 block of Maywood Drive South.
While en route to the Mayfair area, deputies were advised that one shooting victim was at a residence located in the 3900 block of Maywood Drive South, and a second shooting victim was at a residence located in the 1800 block of N Seventh St.
Moments later, deputies were advised that a citizen had disarmed the suspect, later identified as Nunez-Lopez, in the 1600 block of N Seventh St and was attempting to detain him.
Deputies responded to the 1600 block of N Seventh St where they detained Nunez-Lopez and took control of the handgun he had been firing.
Emergency Medical personnel responded to the two victims. Both were transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Their condition is unknown however, their injuries are considered non-life threatening.
The investigation revealed Nunez Lopez had been walking down 1900 block of Maywood Drive South, randomly shooting at residences. One of the victims was shot three times while in the front yard of his residence. The second victim was struck once by a stray bullet as he attempted to shield his children from the gunfire. Several other residents were shot at by Nunez-Lopez.
As Nunez-Lopez continued walking down the street, a nearby resident caught and disarmed him. The resident held Nunez-Lopez until deputies arrived.
Nunez Lopez was arrested on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and later booked into the Fresno County Jail.
