Two men found shot to death have been identified as 47 year old Jose Abrego-Guardado and 24 year old Wilmer Navarro. Both lived in Mendota.

Around 3:30 am on Sunday, Mendota Police officers responded to a report of shots fired near homes on the 600 block of S. Kate Street in Mendota. Officers arrived and found two shooting victims outside a home. Both were declared deceased at the scene.

Due to the nature of this case, Mendota Police requested that homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office take over the investigation. Detectives and members of our Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to collect evidence. The preliminary investigation shows the two victims knew each other. It is unclear what led to each of them being shot.

Detectives are asking the public for help locating video surveillance footage that could show the potential shooter(s) passing by on foot or in a vehicle. This request is directed to businesses and homeowners with cameras in the area surrounding Kate and 6th Streets.
