12/14/17 - The Coroner’s Office has determined the man died due to natural causes.  His injuries were not consistent with being struck by any sort of object.  He has been identified as Vance Buckman, 60, of Fresno.  He was not homeless.

12/12/17 - Around 7:00 am on Tuesday, a motorist traveling on W. California Ave. near S. Brawley Ave. saw a man lying on the side of the road, who appeared to be injured.

The driver made a report by calling the Sheriff’s Office.  Both deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.  The man, who is believed to be homeless and in his 50s, was determined to be deceased.  It was originally believed that a vehicle struck the man, but a closer examination revealed injuries which may have been caused by something else.

The man’s body has been transported to the Coroner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed at a later time.  Until an exact cause of death is determined, this is being treated as a suspicious death.
