Joshua Heinrichs

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 35 year old Joshua Heinrichs of Reedley.

He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at a vehicle and he also had an outstanding warrant for being a parolee at large.

Just after 9:00 pm on Monday, Fresno County Sheriff’s dispatchers received a report from a person who said the driver of Honda Accord, later identified as Joshua Heinrichs, fired multiple shots and struck their vehicle as they tried to pass Heinrichs. This occurred in the area of Reed and Adams Avenues in Reedley. The victim was not injured.

Deputies responded and found the Honda driving at approximately 100 mph in the area of North and McCall Avenues near Sanger. The sheriff’s helicopter, EAGLE One, got overhead and followed Heinrichs, allowing patrol vehicles to back off. Deputies set out a spike strip at Hwy. 180 and Academy, which Heinrichs ran over. He continued to drive, reaching 117 mph, as sparks began flying from his wheels. Heinrichs made his way to an apartment complex located on the 500 block of Adams Ave. in Orange Cove. He abandoned his car and ran into an upstairs apartment unit belonging to people he knew. Deputies surrounded the complex and our Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and SWAT team responded to the scene. Several hours were spent trying to convince everyone in the apartment to exit, but they refused. A search warrant was secured and at 5:30 am SWAT members prepared to enter the apartment. At this time, two women walked out the front door and were detained. Heinrichs escaped through a back window and tried climbing down to a nearby building. SWAT members who were positioned there were able to take him into custody.
