3/14/16 - The Coroner's Office has released the identification of the victim. He is Richard Moreno, 28, of Orange Cove.
3/12/16 - Around 5:45 am on Saturday, Orange Cove Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of 9th Street in the city of Orange Cove.
A citizen reported that a man was lying in the roadway and he appeared to be injured. Responding officers discovered the man was dead and had apparently been shot. Orange Cove police requested the assistance of homicide detectives from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office due to their resources and expertise in handling these types of cases. FSO homicide detectives are now in charge of the investigation.
Detectives have interviewed potential witnesses and members of the FSO Crime Scene Unit have collected evidence from the scene. Detectives spoke with one person who believes they may have heard gunshots in the area around 2:00 am, but did not report it because they were not positive that it was indeed gunfire. So there is a possibly the victim was shot at that time.
No suspects have been identified at this point. The victim appears to be in his 20s. His name is being withheld at this time pending an autopsy by the Coroner’s Office.
