On Monday, March 28th, the Rotary Club of Fresno presented FSO Detective John Capriola with its annual Public Safety Award.
Detective Capriola was hired in 2001 and has worked a variety of assignments since that time. While assigned to Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC), he authored over 50 search warrants. As a Patrol Training Officer, he trained over 25 trainees. As a member of the Search and Rescue team, he participated in over 25 missions. In just one year as a member of the HEAT team, he has made more than 100 stolen vehicle recoveries and arrested 47 people who were occupying stolen vehicles. It is estimated he has arrested over 1,000 felons in his 15 year career.
Detective Capriola received special recognition for his extensive work in the November 2015 case where an 83-year-old Air Force Veteran from Kerman had his classic cars stolen. Capriola and other members of Fresno HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Theft) recovered the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air and 1966 Chevrolet El Camino, as well as arrested the two people responsible for the crime.
The Rotary Club also presented awards to members of the Fresno Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Fresno Fire Department and Fresno County District Attorney's Office for their exceptional work.
