Franco, R

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office today announced the arrest of a Fresno man in connection with an armed robbery of three subjects in Winton Park this past weekend. Arrested was 28 year old Ramon Morfin Franco.

On Sunday, shortly before 10:30am, deputies patrolling the area of Winton Park were flagged down by three subjects who reported they had just been robbed.

Deputies learned the three victims had arrived at the park earlier in the morning to fish, when they were approached by the suspect who initially asked them for a jump start as his vehicle would not start. As they started to assist the subject, he produced a handgun and demanded their wallets, cell phones, and car keys. After taking their property, the subject pepper sprayed all three. He then got into his truck and drove away.

A description of the suspect and suspect vehicle was immediately broadcast. At about 12:30pm, a deputy patrolling in the area of Peach & Butler spotted the possible suspect vehicle. With the assistance of other deputies, the vehicle was pulled over near Peach & Belgravia. The driver, later identified as Franco was immediately detained.

Witnesses were able to positively identify Franco as the person who had committed the armed robbery.

A 9mm handgun, and property stolen from the victims were found in Franco's vehicle.

Franco was arrested on charges of armed robbery, possession of stolen property, and carrying concealed weapon, and later booked into the Fresno County Jail.
