Detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Abuse Unit have booked 44 year old Miguel Carriedo into the Fresno County Jail.
He is being held on a no-bail warrant for conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Carriedo was wanted for a crime that took place on February 16th, 2016. On that afternoon, a 13 year old girl got off the school bus and walked to her home near E. Shepherd and Academy Ave. in Clovis. Once she got near the front door, several masked men approached her, grabbed her and forced her into the trunk of their car. They drove her approximately 20 miles away to the area of Sycamore Road and Coyote Drive in Tollhouse. There they tied her to a tree and beat her up before fleeing the scene. The girl was able to walk a little over a mile and find help from a homeowner in the area who called the Sheriff’s Office. The girl was treated for her injuries and later made a full recovery.
Detectives later identified several suspects in the case. On February 27th, 2016, detectives arrested Sandra Garcia. her son Mark Anthony Roque, both of Madera. Also arrested was Garcia’s cousin, Miguel Carriedo of Lompoc, CA. Detectives discovered that this crime was not a random act. Garcia, who was the girlfriend of the victim’s father, had conspired with the two men to kidnap the teen. All three were released from jail a few days later after no charges were filed, due to the need for additional evidence.
On June 22, 2016, arrest warrants were issued for Garcia, Roque and Carriedo. Two days later, Garcia and Roque were located and arrested. However, Carriedo was nowhere to be found.
The investigation continued for more four years, with detectives continuing their efforts to find Carriedo. In January of 2020, detectives developed information that Carriedo fled to Mexico to avoid apprehension and prosecution in the kidnapping case. Detectives contacted a sheriff’s detective assigned to the United States Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force. He and other members of the task force worked tirelessly with U.S. Marshals Service personnel in Mexico and their Mexican law enforcement counterparts. The task force officer also interfaced with the United States Attorney’s Office in Fresno, who provided valuable investigative assistance.
On August 25, 2020 the investigative efforts of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office paid off when Carriedo was located at a home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Mexican law enforcement took Carriedo into custody and he was returned to the United States through coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican immigration officials. On August 26th, Carriedo returned to California, was transported to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and later booked into jail.
45 year old Sandra Garcia and 22 year old Mark Roque remain in jail. There are no other outstanding suspects in this case.
