Collision at Shields and Valentine

At 4:24 pm on Friday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a stop on a Yamaha sport motorcycle for a traffic violation near McKinley and Feland Avenues in Fresno.

The man, who had a female passenger riding on back, refused to pull over and lead the deputy on a pursuit at moderate speeds.  The Sheriff’s Office helicopter, EAGLE One, responded to assist.

At 4:26 pm, the motorcyclist was heading northbound on Valentine Avenue when he ran a stop sign and collided with the rear door of a vehicle heading westbound on Shields Avenue. Assisting deputies and members of EMS arrived and provided medical aid to the three people involved.  All were transported Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The man on the motorcycle later died.  His passenger, a 22 year old woman, is in critical condition.  The man driving the car did not suffer any severe injuries.

Due to the collision happening at a city of Fresno intersection, the Fresno Police Department is conducting the investigation.
