Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Gerardo Salazar, 33, of Firebaugh for two felony counts of attempted murder.
Around 5:00 am Wednesday, a 911 call was made to Firebaugh Police regarding injuries to people at a home on the 1800 block of Allardt Drive in Firebaugh. Officers arrived and found Salazar had barricaded himself inside the garage. They were ultimately able to make contact with Salazar and arrest him.
Paramedics responded to the home and transported the two male victims to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. One victim is 73 years old and the other is 42. Both are listed in critical condition. Preliminary findings of the investigation are that Salazar used a metal pipe and knife to attack both victims, who are his relatives. The motive for this violent attack has not yet been determined.
As part of this ongoing investigation, the Crime Scene Unit collected evidence and detectives served a search warrant at the house.
Firebaugh Police requested that the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office take over this case due to its access to resources and expertise in these types of investigations.
