8/30/15 - Sunday night, the evacuation warning notices in the Wishon area were lifted. The precautionary measure was put in place on Friday as fire crews battling the Rough Fire conducted measures to help contain the fire. The operation was a success.
Friday morning, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office began issuing evacuation warning notices to people in the Wishon area. This impacts everyone along McKinley Grove Road between Dinkey Creek Road and the Wishon Reservoir. McKinley Grove Road remains open to motorists, however, an FSO deputy is posted in a patrol vehicle at the Dinkey Creek intersection to notify drivers of the dangerous conditions.

This warning is in effect due to a planned operation by firefighters working the Rough Fire. Crews are working to tie two fire lines together, which are approximately two to four miles south of Wishon. The procedure is causing extremely smoky conditions for the entire area. This is a necessary approach in order to gain overall containment. Firefighters do not anticipate any problems, but if the fire were to jump a line, residents would have two hours leave the area. Again, this is a warning, but the Sheriff’s Office wants to alert residents that they should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
The Rough Fire started on July 31st due to a lightning strike. To date, 60,238 acres have burned and there is 25% containment. 2,033 firefighters are on scene.
