A Fresno man was arrested this past Friday night, on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon, after he threatened another motorist with a handgun, and later crashed his vehicle. Arrested was 23 year old George Raymond Hill.
Shortly before 9:30pm, deputies responded to the area of Hwy 180 & McCall in regards to a brandishing of a firearm call.
Dispatch had received a 911 call from the victims who advised while driving westbound on Hwy 180 near Academy, a white male subject driving a silver colored BMW, pulled alongside their vehicle and pointed a handgun at them. They last saw the vehicle driving erratically westbound on Hwy 180 at a high rate of speed.
As deputies were responding to the call, the silver BMW passed another deputy near Hwy 180 at DeWolf. The deputy started after the BMW which was driving over 100 mph. The deputy watched as the BMW took the Temperance off ramp, lost control, and crashed. After assisting deputies arrived, the driver, later identified as Hill, and another passenger were detained.
Hill was later positively identified as the subject who had earlier pointed the handgun at the other motorists. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries he had sustained during the crash. He was later booked into the Fresno County Jail on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, being a felon in possession of a firearm, committing a felony while armed, driving under the influence violations, and probation violations.
The passenger in the vehicle was not arrested.
During the initial investigation, deputies searched the accident scene for the handgun but it was not located. The following day during daylight, deputies again searched the area and located the handgun near the crash scene.
