On Sunday, homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Katreeva Woolf of Clovis on felony charges of murder, burglary, attempted arson and auto theft.

She has been booked into the Fresno County Jail.  Her bail is set at $1,035,000.  Woolf is responsible for killing her family member, 84 year old Chester Scharnick or Fresno.

Around 2:30 pm on January 18th, dispatchers at the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injured person at a home near the intersection of Turner and Bremer Avenues in Fresno.  Deputies, firefighters and EMS personnel arrived, went inside the home and determined the elderly man, later identified as Chester Scharnick, was deceased.  Deputies noticed the death did not appear to be natural, so they taped off the area as a crime scene and requested homicide detectives to the home.

Homicide detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit arrived to the scene to interview witnesses and collect evidence.  It was discovered that a neighbor had become concerned about the elderly gentleman after not being able to get a hold of him earlier in the day.  The neighbor contacted a relative, who came to the house, went inside and found the man to be non-responsive.  The relative then dialed 911.  Detectives found evidence showing the suspect tried to set the house on fire prior to fleeing in the victim’s car.  They identified Woolf as a person of interest and began to search for her.
