Detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 47 year old Martin Avalos of Raisin City.
He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on a charge of murder.
The victim has been identified as 38 year old Jose Rodriguez Calderon of Raisin City. The two men lived next door to each other on S. Ormus Ave.
At 8:45 pm on Friday, dispatchers with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots fired on Ormus Ave., south of Bowles Ave. in Raisin City. Deputies arrived and found Jose Rodriguez Calderon with an obvious gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased on the street.
Homicide detectives and our Crime Scene Unit arrived on seen to collect evidence and interview people in nearby homes to try and learn what may have led to the shooting.
Detectives worked all throughout Saturday and identified Martin Avalos as the shooting suspect. Members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (ViCAT) searched for Avalos. They located him in the evening and placed him under arrest. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
