Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 60 year old Joe Gomez Jr. of Parlier.

He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.  His bail is $1.54 million.

Gomez Jr. was arrested for shooting and killing 57 year old Israel Trevino Jr. of Selma.  Gomez Jr. also shot and seriously wounded 33 year old Israel Trevino III of Selma.  Trevino III is currently hospitalized with major injuries and is listed in critical, but stable condition.  Trevino Jr. is the father of Trevino III.  The elder Trevino is a retiree of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).  His son is a current employee of CDCR.

At 4:19 pm on Sunday, the Parlier Police Department received a 911 call of shots fired near Parlier and Whitener Avenues.  Officers arrived on scene at 4:20 pm and found two men injured on the sidewalk in front of El Rancho Market.  Witnesses immediately pointed out to officers a fleeing vehicle that the gunman was driving.  A Parlier Police officer made a vehicle stop and detained the man, later identified as Joe Gomez Jr.

Meanwhile in front of the market, Israel Trevino Jr. was determined to be deceased.  EMS arrived and rushed deceased man’s son, Israel Trevino III, to the hospital.

Parlier Police requested sheriff's detectives respond to the scene to take the lead in the investigation. Detectives learned from witnesses there was a disturbance between three men, the Trevinos and Gomez Jr., which lead to gunshots.  After gathering evidence and interviews, detectives arrested Gomez Jr. for the shootings. They determined this to be an isolated incident where the victims were targeted.  There are no ties to gangs in this case.
