Detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Ag Task Force have arrested four men and one woman for a rash of graveside thefts.
The suspects are:
- Anthony Renteria, 50, of Fresno
- Jack Dailey, 41, of Fresno
- Kyle Borboa, 39, of Fresno
- Timothy Neitzel, 36, of Fresno
- Dusty Clowers, 26, of Fresno
From the beginning of April through the end of July, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of theft from Fresno Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located near Highway 180 and Cornelia Ave. Each time, the cemetery reported bronze vases were stolen. Family members regularly bring these vases filled with flowers, then place them at the different headstones and monuments to pay respect to their loved ones.
Due to metal being involved, which was likely being recycled for profit, Ag Task Force detectives were placed in charge of the investigation. Over time, detectives developed information about the possible suspects involved. They collaborated with the Fresno County Adult Compliance Team (ACT), which focuses on probation enforcement, to find and arrest the five people believed to be responsible. None of the stolen vases were recovered.
It is estimated that approximately 500 vases, with a total retail value of more than $40,000, were stolen during the four month period. Based on current market rates, detectives estimate the thieves made around $15,000 by recycling the bronze vases.
