The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office today announced the arrest of a Sanger man after attempting to burglarize a home in west Fresno. Arrested was 19 year old Matthew Adam Lopez.
Yesterday afternoon, shortly before 2:30pm, deputies responded to a call of a possible burglary in-progress call at a residence located in the 4500 block of W Olive Ave. While on the phone with Sheriff’s dispatch, the caller stated she could hear the suspect attempting to break in through a side door.
The first arriving deputy confronted Lopez who was still actively trying to break into the residence. Lopez refused the deputy’s commands and a physical altercation ensued. While the two were fighting on the ground, the victim continued to provide dispatch with details of what was happening.
The deputy was able to get Lopez under control and hold him down until assisting units arrived. Lopez was then taken into custody Lopez was arrested on charges of residential burglary, battery on a peace officer, attempting to remove a firearm from a peace officer, resisting arrest, and possession of burglary tools. He was later booked into the Fresno County Jail, but not before being treated at Community Regional Medical Center for injuries he received during the incident.
The deputy received facial lacerations and was treated and released at another hospital.
