Rudy Solano

Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have booked 55-year-old Rudy Solano of Fowler into the Fresno County Jail on multiple felony charges.

On Thursday afternoon, deputies responded to a 911 disturbance call at the 8400 block of S. Bethel Ave. in Selma. It was here at an orchard that Solano pulled up in a taxicab and began to harrass field workers. Solano made threats of having a gun, however, never showed it to the workers. Solano left the area prior to deputies arriving, but an observant witness took down his license plate number. Deputies ran the plate and discovered it matched a taxicab that was stolen from the Amtrak station in downtown Fresno earlier in the day. The taxi driver had stepped away from the vehicle and left the keys inside, which allowed Solano to easily take it.

Around 3:30pm, deputies located Solano in the taxicab and arrested him. The investigation revealed Solano had attempted to carjack a field worker, but was scared away when the victim defended himself by pulling out a gun as a show of force. It turns out the victim has a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon (CCW), which was issued by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. No shots were fired.

As for the taxicab, it has been returned to its owner.

While being booked into jail, Solano became combative, which earned him an extra charge of battery on a correctional officer.
