On December 27th, Fresno County Sheriff's deputies arrested 24-year old Oscar Rojo and booked him into the Fresno County Jail. Rojo has since posted bond and bailed out of jail.
Saturday at around 10:00 pm, deputies responded to a 911 call of a burglary in progress. A family living at a home on the 2000 block of N. McCall in Sanger heard a large crashing noise come from their front window. The male homeowner went to check it out and discovered a man trying to get inside the house. The homeowner noticed the burglar, Oscar Rojo, had used a golf club to break the window. The homeowner ran to the garage to get a baseball bat to defend himself, but could only find a broom handle. He ran back to the window and found Rojo continuing to swing the golf club. The homeowner ushered his wife and two daughters out a rear door and into the backyard. He told them to run to the back of the property, toward a neighbor’s house and call 911.
The homeowner opened his dog kennel in attempt to have his dogs protect them. After doing so, he turned around and saw Rojo in his backyard. The homeowner confronted Rojo, asking him what he wanted. Rojo said nothing and began to chase the homeowner around the backyard. Rojo then grabbed a nearby shovel and began to swing it, chasing the homeowner around to the driveway. The Sheriff’s helicopter, Eagle One, then arrived on scene and shined its spotlight on Rojo, causing him to drop the shovel. Moments later, ground patrol units showed up and deputies arrested Rojo without incident.
The motive of this burglary is not known at this time. Detectives say Rojo may have been under the influence of an illegal substance. The homeowner does not know Rojo. This is an ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information on other possible crimes Rojo may be tied to is asked to report it immediately. Call the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867).
