John Vann

Around 3:00 pm on Thursday, Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 46 year old John Vann.

He is scheduled to be booked into the Fresno County Jail on several charges.

At 12:45 pm, a homeowner on the 2600 block of E. Birch Ave. in Clovis made a report to Sheriff’s Office dispatchers that a man was in his backyard.  A short time later, residents of a neighborhood in the city of Fresno reported seeing the same man acting suspiciously as he wandered their streets.  The suspect then appeared on the property of a home located on the 7200 block of N. Willow Ave and he looked to be carrying a shotgun.  The homeowner reported him to dispatchers.  Just after doing so, the homeowner was informed by a neighbor that his shotgun was stolen from his porch.  They then heard the suspect fire the shotgun one time.

This information was relayed to responding FSO deputies, Fresno Police and Clovis Police officers and they setup a perimeter stretching around the areas of Herndon, Willow, Alluvial and Chestnut Avenues.  During the search, two more shotgun blasts were heard.  Deputies later spotted the suspect in a field and they tracked his movements.  Once everyone was in place, deputies approached the suspect in a field north of some homes on Birch Ave. and ordered him to put his hands up and surrender.  John Vann did give up and was arrested.  The shotgun was not found to be in Vann’s possession.  Deputies continue to search for the missing gun.
