The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Fresno Police Department, Central Unified School District, and Radio Station Y101, will host a Crime Stopper rally next Wednesday at Central West High School.

The event is to advertise and promote the Crime Stoppers phone application. This is a monitored program where one can place a tip regarding criminal activity and be financially rewarded.  The Crime Stoppers tip line is continuously monitored and the information is sent to the proper law enforcement agency.

The application is another tool designed to prevent and report possible crimes that may happen or have happened, remain anonymous, and be paid money for the tip.

A prime example might be an anonymous student at 8 p.m. finds out that another student is going to bring a weapon to school the next day.  With the Crime Stoppers tip hotline, the information would be instantly sent to law enforcement; thus preventing it from happening from the start.  The reporting party remains anonymous and can be paid money for the information.

The rally will be facilitated by Radio Station Y101.  Central West High Leadership students will assist by down loading the application on student’s cellphones.  Once the application is downloaded, they will be given a raffle ticket. Towards the end of the rally, several tickets will be drawn and winners will receive a gift certificate for a free item, (i.e. Starbucks, McDonald’s, etc.).

In addition, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office will be show casing some of our specialized units.  The FSO Eagle One Helicopter will be landing in the quad and available for photographs with the students.
