Backgrounds and Recruiting
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office Backgrounds/Recruiting Unit is currently composed of one full-time deputy sheriff, several extra-help employees and one lieutenant. The process of completing a background package on all employees is both extensive and time-consuming. It involves a polygraph, medical, and psychological exam. In addition, criminal history, driving history, and credit checks are also completed. We strive for the best possible candidates to work alongside us. We are looking for team players who will uphold the office's Mission, Vision, and Values. We want the office to represent the community for which we work.
The background process can take anywhere from four weeks to about four months, depending upon response times from other governmental agencies (military reports on individuals, Department of Justice fingerprint checks, etc.). After a thorough background report, the entire package is sent through the chain of command to the Sheriff, who ultimately decides if s/he wants to hire the applicant.
