At 10:00 pm on January 5th, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle for reckless driving in the area of First and Ventura in Fresno.

Once the driver pulled over, two passengers got out of the pickup truck and walked away. The deputy ordered the subjects back to the vehicle, but they refused and went inside a home.

The deputy detained the driver, later identified as Austin Alvarez, and called for other deputies to assist him.   Deputies arrived and were able to make contact with the passengers who went into the home.

The deputy who made the traffic stop then found a loaded .357 Magnum revolver sitting in plain view inside the truck. It was determined to have been stolen during a burglary. Also discovered were 11 bindles of honey oil, a bag of marijuana, and ammunition.

20 year old Austin Alvarez of Sanger was arrested for three felonies related to possessing a stolen, loaded firearm and a misdemeanor for possessing more than an ounce of marijuana.  The passengers, 26 year old Buenaventura Aranda of Fresno and 24 year old Roberto Lopez of Fresno were arrested for resisting arrest.  Both were issued misdemeanor citations and released.  Alvarez was booked into the Fresno County Jail.  His bail was set at $151,000.
