The Fresno County Sheriff today announced the arrest of a Fresno man after leading deputies on a high speed pursuit in central Fresno. Arrested was 53 year old Larry Burgin.
Early this morning, shortly after 4:30am, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a 1996 Chevy pick-up truck in the area of Blackstone & Bullard. The driver, later identified as Burgin, failed to pull over, sped up, and a pursuit ensued.
The pursuit lasted for several minutes with Burgin driving erratically at speeds up to 70 mph through central Fresno. CHP Air Support took over the pursuit and watched as Burgin drove to a neighborhood in the area of Hoover High School. He then abandoned the truck and fled on foot.
As Burgin ran through the neighborhood, CHP was able to direct deputies to his location. A short time later, Burgin was discovered hiding behind some bushes of a residence located in the 5500 block of N Bond Ave. He was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, deputies located marijuana packaged for sale and evidence of identity theft inside the abandoned truck. He was arrested on charges of felony evading, felony narcotics possession, and identity theft.
