Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have booked 64 year old Warren Vesper of Fresno into the Fresno County Jail.  He faces a felony of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia (meth pipe).  His bail is $21,000.

Around 7:00 pm on February 27th, Warren Vesper was visiting the Fresno County Public Library at the corner of N and Mariposa Streets in downtown Fresno.  Vesper attacked a security guard who was assigned to work at the library.  He took the guard’s baton and hit him multiple times.  Assisting security guards pepper sprayed Vesper and he retreated to the men’s restroom, barricading himself inside.  The guard who was attacked suffered an injury to his hand.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the library.  One of our deputies, who works as part of the Crisis Negotiation Team, was able to talk Vesper into dropping the baton and walk out of the restroom.  He was taken into custody without incident.
