Fresno County Sheriff detectives have positively identified the suspect killed yesterday morning's officer involved shooting in Huron. He is 25-year-old Pedro Najar Murrillo of Huron.
The shooting occurred shortly before 3 a.m. near the intersection of Cherry and Los Angeles in the City of Huron. A Huron PD officer had initiated a subject check on Murrillo who was riding a bicycle in the area. Murrillo was shot after pointing a small-caliber handgun at the officer.
Detectives believe Murrillo attempted to shoot the officer as the one bullet in his gun had a firing pin strike, and the round failed to discharge. Witnesses reported seeing Murrillo trying to fire the weapon at the officer.
Witnesses also reported seeing Murrillo in the area, armed with the handgun, shortly before his contact with the officer.
An autopsy is being performed today.
