Where do you keep your car keys when ‘you’ are not home, but your car is?  Do you leave them in plain sight?  Many people do.

If you leave the house, but your car stays behind parked outside or even in the garage, it can become an easy target for thieves.  Many home burglars enter with intentions of taking smaller items like jewelry, cash, personal electronics and firearms.  However, seeing car keys on the counter or hanging on a hook create a valuable bonus for that thief.  Now, they have access to the opportunity to load big ticket items from your house and into your car for a clean getaway.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office recommends vehicle owners lock up, hide or take their keys with them when they leave a car unattended at home.  It’s a simple step to protect your ride in the unfortunate event your home is burglarized.
