25-Minute Pursuit Ends In Arrest Of Wanted Parolee

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office today announced the arrest of two people, one a wanted parolee, after leading deputies on a 25-minute high-speed pursuit. Arrested were 31-year-old Phillip Paul Marquez, and 24-year-old Adriana Nichole Trevino, both of Fresno.

Earlier this morning, shortly after 3:00am, deputies observed three subjects parked in a vehicle near the intersection of Van Ness and Rialto in Old Fig Garden. As deputies were preparing to check the vehicle and subjects, the driver, later identified as Marquez, sped off at a high rate of speed. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, Marquez refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued.

Reaching speeds of up to 90 mph, the pursuit travelled south on Freeway 41 to Freeway 99, and then down to the City of Fowler. It then returned back to Fresno, to the Sunnyside area, finally stopping near the intersection of Argyle & Tulare.

Leaving the vehicle in 'drive,' the three occupants then got out and fled on foot. The vehicle then rolled in to three parked cars, and the engine caught on fire. One of the deputies used his patrol vehicle's push bumper to push the burning car into the middle of the roadway to prevent the other vehicles from catching fire.

Assisted by CHP and Fresno PD officers, a perimeter was quickly established. Marquez and Trevino were quickly apprehended. The third passenger was never located.

During the investigation, deputies discovered several items of mail inside the vehicle from areas throughout Fresno, including addresses in the Fig Garden area.

Marquez was arrested on charges of felony evading, reckless driving, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, forgery, and a parole warrant. Trevino, who originally gave a false identity as 27-year-old Naomi Alexis Trevino, was arrested on charges of resisting arrest.
