Increase In Theft Of Telephone Wire

Telephone Wire

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person(s) responsible for several recent telephone wire thefts.

Over the past several weeks, there have been several reported thefts of telephone lines in the southern and western portions of the county. The crimes are occurring during the late night/early morning hours.

The suspects(s) cut the telephone lines and then pull them from the poles from which they are secured. The suspects then burn the plastic or paper coating from the small copper wires inside. The bundle of copper wire is then scrapped for a small amount of cash.

The cost of repairing the damage is running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Anyone with information on these thefts is asked to immediately contact Ag Task Force detectives at 600-8150, the Sheriff’s Office at 600-3111, or CrimeStoppers at 498-STOP(7867).
