Traffic Accident Investigation Turns To Murder Investigation. Public’s Help Sought

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has taken over an investigation that was originally reported as a fatal traffic accident.

Early yesterday morning, shortly after 5:30am, officers from the California Highway Patrol and Reedley Police Department responded to what was reported as a single vehicle traffic accident at Buttonwillow & Jefferson.

The vehicle had been driving south on Buttonwillow near Jefferson when it left the roadway and crashed into a tree.  Both occupants were deceased at the scene.

The CHP completed the accident investigation, and both decedents were transported to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

During an autopsy, it was discovered both occupants had sustained traumatic injuries which were not consistent with a traffic accident.

The Sheriff’s Office was immediately contacted, and the investigation turned over to homicide investigators.

The two occupants of the vehicle have been identified as 38 year old Joseph Abraham Blunt of Santa Clara, and 40 year old George Duarte of Reedley.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 600-3111, or CrimeStoppers at 498-STOP(7867).
