This past Friday, at approximately 3:00pm, Parlier PD units, assisted by Sheriff’s deputies responded to 13551 seventh St in the City of Parlier after multiple phone calls were received reporting the victim of a shooting.
Arriving officers discovered the victim, forty year old Arthur Gomez Jr inside his residence located at 13541 Seventh St, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Gomez was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for emergency surgery. He later died as a result of his injuries.
Several witnesses identified Gomez’ neighbor, thirty seven year old Joel Valera, as the suspect in the shooting. Officers and deputies contacted Valera at his residence located at 13551 Seventh St, and arrested him without incident.
After a request by Parlier PD, Sheriff’s homicide detectives responded to handle the investigation.
The investigation has revealed Gomez and Valera became involved in a verbal disagreement in the front yards of their residences during which time, Valera produced a gun a fired more than once, striking Gomez several times. Gomez was shot as members of his family watched.
A search warrant was served at Valera’s residence where firearms, including the one believed to be the murder weapon, were seized.
Detectives have also learned Valera is a previously deported felon. Detectives are working with Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
