Fresno County Sheriff narcotics detectives, along with investigators from DEA and the California DOJ, are currently at the scene of a large marijuana grow near Sanger. The location is also the scene of a shooting incident that occurred last night.
This morning at about 7:30am, detectives served a search warrant at the thirteen acre grow site located on the east side of Greenwood south of Central.
Approximately 20 law enforcement officers are on scene eradicating an estimated 10,000 mature plants at this time.
Fifteen people have been detained, one of which was taken into custody. His identity is not being released at this time. However, he was discovered to be a registered sex offender, in possession of a rifle, and several rounds of ammunition.
The shooting incident occurred last night, shortly after 8:30pm.
The investigation revealed that two Sanger men had gone to the marijuana grow to steal plants. Once there, they were confronted by an Asian male subject who was armed with a gun. The armed subject fired at least three shots, striking one of the would be thieves in the back.
Both subjects were able to get to their car and drive back to Sanger. The injured subject was then driven to Selma Hospital by a relative. He was eventually transported to CRMC for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
While narcotics detective are handling the marijuana aspect of the investigation, detectives from the Homicide Unit are handling the shooting investigation.
Narcotics detectives were already aware of the marijuana grow prior to last night’s shooting.
It is yet to be determined if the subject detained at the marijuana grow was involved in the shooting incident.
