Arrest Made In 2012 Del Rey Murder

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office today announced the arrest of a 17-year-old Fresno man wanted in connection with a 2012 Del Rey shooting that left one man dead.

On the evening of Aug. 11, 25-year-old Michael Escalera was walking with his girlfriend near the intersection of Jefferson and Morro in the town of Del Rey. As they walked, a dark blue Buick Regal drove up. A single gunshot was fired at Escalera from inside the vehicle. Escalera was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The ten-month-old investigation revealed that the 17-year-old juvenile was responsible for Escalera's death.

The juvenile was arrested yesterday at the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center where he was in custody for a more recent drive by shooting that occurred in the City of Fresno.

The juvenile is a self-admitted street gang member, and the murder does appear to be gang-related.

The case has been filed with the District Attorney's Office.
