Policies in Focus
Air Support Unit
The Air Support Unit shall provide air
support to ground based units of the Fresno County Sheriff's
Department engaged in all facets of law enforcement activities serving
the citizens of Fresno County.

Boating
Enforcement Unit
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Boating Safety Unit has the
primary responsibility for the enforcement of laws and regulations
relating to the operation of watercraft within the County of Fresno.

K-9 Unit
Since
1976, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department has utilized canines as
tools to better protect and serve the citizens of the county. The
trained Sheriff’s canine performs a vital service to the community.

Dive Team
The
Fresno County Sheriff's Department Dive Team was first started in the
1960's and was brought about due to the need for underwater recovery
in and around the numerous rivers and lakes in the Fresno County area.

Field
Training Officer
The Fresno County Sheriff’s
Department Field Training Officer unit consists of one Lieutenant, two
Sergeants, and twenty-two Field Training Officers.

Forensic Services
In June 2003, the various units that provide forensic services to the
Sheriff's Department were consolidated into one unit, the Forensic
Laboratory.
Mounted
Horse Unit
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department Mounted patrol was established
in March of 1997. Originally the patrol was comprised of one full time
Sheriff’s Patrol Sergeant and four Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s.

Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement
Consortium
On January 3rd of 1994, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department
formally established their first gang enforcement team titled
C.R.A.S.H. (Combined resources against street hoodlums).

Office of Emergency Services
The California Office of Emergency Services (OES) was
established as part of the Governor's Office in 1950 as the State
Office of Civil Defense.

Off-Road Safety Team
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department
offers a new year round Off-Road Enforcement Team specializing in
off-road law enforcement, search and rescue missions, medical
assistance, and public education throughout Fresno County.
Reserve Deputies
The Fresno County Sheriff’s
Law Enforcement Bureau is comprised of over 50 reserve patrol deputies
assigned to 4 areas throughout the county of Fresno, which encompasses
6,000 sq. miles.

Search & Rescue
The
Fresno County Sheriff’s Department has a proud history of search and
rescue service to the citizen’s of Fresno County.

S.W.A.T.
The
Fresno County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team was formed in 1975, under
the direction of Lieutenant’s Hogue and Hansen.
