Mims started her career in law enforcement in January 1980, when she
was hired as the first female police officer in the City of
Kerman. In 1983, she became a Deputy Sheriff for Fresno County,
and has since progressed up through the ranks.

With 6,011 square miles, Fresno County is the sixth largest county in the State of California. It is projected that the 2007 population will approach 920,000. When examining growth since 1990, the county has increased by almost 38 percent (1.4 percent per year). But fifteen percent of that growth (2.1 percent a year) occurred over just the last seven years. As such, Fresno County is the ninth fastest growing county in California.  |

Megan's Law
Megan's
Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who
was raped and killed by a known child molester who had moved across
the street from the family without their knowledge. In the wake of
the tragedy, the Kanka's sought to have local communities warned
about sex offenders in the area.
