Deputy II's may advance to this level upon completion of minimum training requirements as a Deputy II.

Back to TopDeputy Sheriff IVis a specialist area of law enforcement and involves activities such as Field Training Officer, Detectives, Civil, Vice/Narcotics, Administration, Planning and Research, Background Investigations, and Internal Affairs. Deputy IV's also assume a supervisory role both in the field and administratively in the absence of a sergeant. Deputy III's may promote to this position after showing a high degree of skill, motivation and expertise in the unit they are assigned to. Deputy III's must then pass an oral board process to promote to Deputy IV.

Advancement to Correctional Officer I is normally achieved upon completion of the minimum training requirements. Advancement to Correctional Officer II, III, and IV can be achieved in a process similar to that for the Deputy Sheriffs' classifications, in that the officer must demonstrate good job performance and successfully complete a testing process to advance to the next higher level of rank. Correctional Officer IV is a specialized Civil Service classification involving training and supervisory responsibilities.
